‘Black lives matter’ protest assumes another dimension in Madrid

Thousands of Black Lives Matters campaigners demonstrated outside the U.S. embassy in Madrid on Sunday (June 7).

The anti-racism protest was one of many across the world sparked by George Floyd’s fatal encounter last month with Minneapolis police.

In Madrid the crowd chanted ‘I can’t breathe’, echoing words Floyd spoke as a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

The protesters in Madrid staged a minute’s silence and marched to the Spanish capital’s central Puerta del Sol square.
