Large numbers of Nigerians have expressed displeasure over federal government’s decision to permit Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote move goods across the border in spite a subsisting order restricting such activity. The irate Nigerians who were quick to voice their displeasure on various social media platforms queried why Dangote should be given a “special permit” to the expense of other genuine importers and exporters. Founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc, Atedo Peterside, condemned the gesture towards Dangote Industries Limited emphasising it is inimical to the business interests of other players in the industry.
Nigeria’s land borders have been closed to its West African neighbours for more than a year as part of efforts to check the smuggling of contraband into the country.
