For the first time in history, six women, including pop sensation Katy Perry, will be sent into space on a Blue Origin rocket Monday for around 11 minutes. This would be the first all-female spaceflight since 1963.
According to reports, the window for the most recent New Shepard rocket launch will open on Monday at approximately 8:30 a.m. CDT.
“I’ve dreamt of going to space for 15 years and tomorrow that dream becomes a reality,” Perry said on social media on Sunday.
The 11th crewed New Shepard flight, which is officially called NS-31, is expected to take off from the company’s Launch Site One in West Texas.
Along with Perry, the crew includes Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos’ journalist fiance, Lauren Sanchez, who is also a helicopter pilot.
Journalist Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn round out the flight crew, according to Blue Origin.
Reaching a height of roughly 65 miles above Earth, the voyage will only take about 11 minutes.
Perry and her other crew members will not be sent into orbit because the Kármán line, which is 62 miles long, is thought to be the border between Earth’s atmosphere and space.
This marks the 11th human flight by Blue Origin, which began launching passengers – including company founder Jeff Bezos – into space in 2021.
Sanchez, who is also Bezos’ partner, said the mission is about inspiring others to “dream big,” especially young girls.
Perry echoed the sentiment, saying: “You’re brave, you’re bold… You’re doing this to inspire the next generation, especially young girls, to go, ‘I’ll go to space in the future.’ No limitations.”
