Nigerian foremost University, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD) has been adjudged the best University in Nigeria for a record second consecutive year. ABUAD’s latest ranking largely attests to its academic excellence, state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional academic curriculum.

The rantings, announced by Times Higher Education Impact, on Thursday May 25, 2023, placed ABUAD first out of 197 universities in Nigeria and among top 201 – 300 universities globally. The latest rating apparently shows a clear improvement from its record in 2022 when ABUAD was rated first out of 256 institutions, and on a global scale between 301 and 400 globally.

The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The 2023 Impact Rankings is the fifth edition, and the overall ranking includes 1,591 universities from 112 countries/regions.

The ratings consider calibrated performance indicators, measuring each institution’s performance in five areas: teaching (learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citation (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer). Like an eagle soaring higher, ABUAD excelled in all these parameters, and in particular, stood out in its international outlook compared to close its peers.

Achieving this feat, however, wasn’t an easy ride. Speaking on this historical landmark, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, described the remarkable accomplishment as a further demonstration of ABUAD’s unrelenting commitment to excellence buttressed by its distinct improvement from last year’s ranking   “We are the best and we are determined to lead the academic world ” she quipped.

The Vice Chancellor graciously expressed special gratitude to the Founder of the university, Aare Afe Babalola for his enigmatic support and unalloyed dedication . She also applauded the contribution of the Director of ICT and every staff who made the feat a reality.
