President Bola Tinubu has just sworn-in the new Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack into office.

The swearing-in took place prior to the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday at the State House Abuja.
Recall that President Tinubu approved the appointment of Walson-Jack as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, on July 17, 2024.
She was the Federal Ministry of Education’s permanent secretary before being appointed.
She has worked in multiple ministries since her appointment as Federal Permanent Secretary in 2017.
In a previous announcement, the president stated that Walson-Jack will succeed Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, the outgoing Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, who is scheduled to retire on August 13, 2024.
In September 2019, Yemi-Esan assumed the position in an acting capacity; in March 2020, her permanent appointment was officially announced. Important reforms aiming at improving the efficacy and efficiency of the civil service were implemented during her leadership.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Walson-Jack as a Permanent Secretary in 2017. Prior to this appointment, Walson-Jack held positions in the Federal Ministries of Power, Water Resources, and Sanitation as well as the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs. Her extensive background has allowed her to have a thorough understanding of the public sector.
After graduating from the University of Lagos with a Bachelor of Laws, Walson-Jack was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.
She is married to Hon. Nimi Walson-Jack, a former General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), making them a notable couple in Nigeria’s legal and public service communities.
