Former President Donald Trump’s campaign sparked more controversy this week, during a visit to Arlington National Cemetery meant to highlight the disorderly US pullout from Afghanistan in 2021.

During the visit on Monday, someone physically prevented Trump’s team from joining him, according to two Trump campaign officials.

According to a cemetery representative that “there was an incident” and “a report was filed,” but the spokeswoman gave no further information.

Trump was at the cemetery after a wreath-laying ceremony at the Abbey Gate of the Kabul airport in memory of the 13 US military personnel who lost their lives there. Three years have passed since the tragedy, and the Trump campaign shared a video of the previous president’s visit on TikTok.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a statement from the families of the deceased troops expressing their satisfaction, seemingly implying that the tragedy was caused by the campaign’s use of photography.

“We had given our approval for President Trump’s official videographer and photographer to attend the event, ensuring these sacred moments of remembrance were respectfully captured and so we can cherish these memories forever,” the families said.

But according to a statement from Arlington National Cemetery obtained by CNN, federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries.
