Some unknown gunmen on Saturday attacked the convoy of Gov. Yahaya Bello along the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
The state government confirmed the sad development and stated the attack took place near a Naval Base, few kilometers away from Lokoja, the state capital.
The Kogi Commissioner for Information, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, made the disclosure in a statement in Lokoja.
Fanwo cliam that the gunmen were political thugs of an opposition political party in the state, the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The commissioner said the incident which occurred at about 12.30 p.m., left several people including security aides injured and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The state administration, according to Fanwo, would not permit any breakdown of law and order and would instead use all of its resources to prosecute the perpetrators.
He claims that the governor has issued a warning to APC members saying that engaging in retaliatory violence will result in harsh punishment from all sides.
