The U.S. claims to be sending a ship, a carrier, and jets to the eastern Mediterranean and to be providing Israel with more weapons and ammunition.

It comes after what President Biden called a “unprecedented and appalling assault” by Hamas on southern Israel.

Several US citizens were among the dead, according to a US National Security spokeswoman.

According to Israel, there have been around 700 fatalities and 100 kidnappings.

According to Palestinian sources, at than 400 people have died in Gaza as a result of Israeli airstrikes in retaliation.

The USS Gerald R Ford aircraft carrier, a missile cruiser, and four missile destroyers were on their way to the area, according to US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin. Fighter jets would also be sent, he claimed.

The White House said that more military supplies would be deployed to Israel in the upcoming days and stated that the US was working to prevent Israel’s opponents from trying to take advantage of the situation.

American worries that the confrontation between Israel and Hamas could spread to other parts of the region are reflected in the substantial deployment.

The US is especially eager to keep Lebanon’s potent Hezbollah movement out of the fighting. Iran, which also supports and funds Hamas, is its backer.

Ebrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, declared his support for the Hamas strike and demanded that Israel be held accountable for jeopardizing the region.

Hamas has claimed that Iran provided support in carrying out its offensive, which featured missiles, drones, and militants using paragliders to breach Israeli border defenses in the Gaza Strip.
