The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has arrived at a decision to write Baba Ahmed, inspector-general of police, to investigate and prosecute Hudu Yunusa Ari, the resident electoral commissioner (REC) for Adamawa.

The decision was taken on Tuesday at closed-door meeting attended by its national commissioners at the commissions’ headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting took place just 24 hours after the electoral umpire ordered Hudu Yunusa Ari, its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, to refrain from participating in any of the electoral umpire’s duties or the state election.

The commission also decided to write Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, to brief President Muhammadu Buhari about the “unwholesome behaviour” of the REC.

Contrary to the provision of the electoral Act, the REC, sparked outrage upon declaring Aisha “Binani” Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Saturday’s supplementary election over the incumbent, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).
