The video-on-demand version of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now accessible. It is now possible to rent and buy the second installment of Miles Morales’ multiversal adventures on Zee5, Apple TV, Youtube Movies, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV.
Only Apple TV provides the premium Ultra HD version with Dolby Atmos audio among these options, albeit it is only available for purchase at a cost of Rs. 490. Both versions have subtitles in a variety of languages, and the SD (standard definition) version is also offered for Rs. 390. The movie may be purchased on YouTube Movies for Rs. 590 for the SD version and Rs. 820 for the 1080p full-HD print; there is no option to rent on either platform.
Only Zee5 and Amazon Prime Video allow for the rental of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, however Zee5’s price is a little odd. The price difference between the SD and HD versions is Rs. 399, which doesn’t make much sense given that the buyer would prefer the HD version if their internet connection could handle it.
While the version on Zee5 does not specify the version you will receive, given the Rs. 349 price tag and the fact that Indians are its primary target market (regional pricing), I am inclined to assume that it will be in HD quality. Similar to the theatrical version, the platform also provides audio in 10 regional languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Bengali, Kannada, Punjabi, and Gujarati.
With a worldwide gross of $683.8 million (about Rs. 56,62 crore), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse broke records as the highest-grossing Sony Pictures Animation movie. If the statistics and critical acclaim aren’t compelling enough, IGN has released the opening 10 minutes of the movie exclusively, which should give you a sense of the overall tone of the movie. In order to unravel a big plot, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), now back together with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), is launched across the multiverse and entangled in a web of Spider-People from many dimensions. When Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), the leader of the multiverse, proposes a risky option, Miles rejects it, starting a full-scale conflict in which he jumps across realms, is mauled by a Spider-Cat, and more.
Thanks to his unique skills that enable him to open and pass via portals, The Spot (Jason Schwartzman) seems to be the enigmatic force behind the multiverse’s destruction. Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, and Jake Johnson as the original Spider-Man/Peter Parker are some of the other prominent characters. Karan Soni provides the voice for Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India, whose Mumbattan universe is depicted in a watercolour style reminiscent of vintage Indian comic books. The movie features a total of six distinct art forms in addition to the crazy doodle sketches that give it a lot more personality.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now available as VOD on YouTube Movies, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Zee5. It’s also still playing in select theatres across the country.
