President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a meeting with two governors from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The duo are Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State and Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State, met the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Governor Eno emphasized the need to set politics aside and focus on governance now that the elections are over. He expressed his commitment to working with the federal government to ensure that the people of Akwa Ibom benefit from democracy.
Eno stated, “We came to visit with the President, to congratulate him on the election and his swearing-in and to pledge our support, our commitment, and our loyalty to the President and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Politics is over and governance has started. Akwa Ibom is an integral part of Nigeria, and we have to work with the federal government to ensure that Akwa Ibomites see the benefits of democracy.”
The governor talked about a number of issues that call for government assistance, such as finishing the Calabar-Itu road, expanding the Ibom deep seaport, acquiring an export permit, and creating a free trade zone for the Calabar airport. Eno emphasized the value of forging strategic alliances with the federal government in order to advance the state’s aviation sector and import spare parts for aircraft upkeep.
Eno also noted the steps his administration had done to lessen the effects of the termination of the gasoline subsidy on the populace. He acknowledged the distribution of palliatives to local governments and stated his plan to meet with petroleum marketers in the state to enlist their assistance in easing the sufferings brought on by the termination of the subsidy.
